The truth is that diagnosis can be challenging since insulin resistance is not necessarily something you easily see…. But, guess what?! It’s certainly something you’re going to FEEL and your doctor should be able to run some tests to confirm this!
Until then, let’s talk about how IR may show up…

▪️Signs - these are things anyone can see or measure and are objective

🔻Skin tags

🔻High blood glucose and/or high fasting insulin

🔻Elevated triglycerides

🔻Acanthosis nigricans (dark patches around skin folds)

🔻Prediabetes or diabetes

◾️Symptoms - these are generally more subjective (meaning only you know how they feel) but definitely VALID!

🔺Fatigue

🔺Belly fat

🔺Sugar cravings

🔺Extreme hunger

🔺Tingling of hands/feet

🤷🏻‍♀️Do you have unlimited supply of it (never)
⠀
🤯Does it show up for you consistently and sustainably (hell to the NOOO)

So to me, thinking about motivation as a driving force to change habits is a total waste of time and energy.🤦🏻‍♀️

It’s essentially saying, I know i’m setting myself up for failure but there’s nothing else I can do about it…

Wait, what?! Let’s go back to that last part- there’s actually so much you can do about it!

Studies show that swapping the TYPE of fat you eat can majorly impact your hormones.

🌱Specifically plant based fats such as olives, nuts and seeds as well as avocados can improve hormonal health and reduce risk of things like breast cancer.

👉🏻 We also know that plant based fat are mostly unsaturated, which can reduce insulin resistance and risk of diseases like diabetes.

🚩But just a quick reminder that the Mediterranean diet is not JUST about healthier fat! It’s also big on:

🥬High amounts of produce

🍓Adequate fiber intake from beans and legumes
⠀
🍋Little processed foods
⠀
Moderate consumption of red meat and sugar
⠀
🤸🏻‍♀️Physical activity and thriving community life (major determinant of health!)
